Old Kahraman amber
Amber Kahraman
The best known type of amber is kahraman. Kahraman is fossilized resin of coniferous trees over 50 million years old, but it has been extracted several years ago and most of the time it has already been used. The oxygen in the atmosphere and the secretions of people’s hands oxidize the amber giving it a nice crocus color. With a hardness of 2.2, it is quite fragile, so its beads should not be hit violently but let them fall gently on each other, so that we can hear the magical sound of their hits.
Kahraman was mined in some Arab countries, in Burma and Tibet. Its deposits have now been depleted, and what genuine kahramans remain are passed from hand to hand, making them very expensive and ever-increasing in price.
